Literacy homework

A worksheet on idioms was given out today. Please complete the sheet and bring it in on Friday, 23^rd May. Can you think of any other idioms? Write them in a sentence so that they make sense.

Skip-a-thon for the British Heart Foundation

The school will be taking part in a skip-a-thon this Friday. Each class will be given 20 minutes to complete as many skips as they can in that time. If you would like to take part, please bring £1 to school on Friday. All donations will go to the charity.

Choose an aspect of life in Ancient Greece to research. Prepare some facts to present to the class. Due: Monday, 19^th May.

Early morning Maths.

The early morning Maths group will be going ahead tomorrow morning (Fri) for those who are eligible.

Science homework

Thursday:

Friction in sport: In some sports equipment is designed to increase friction e.g. studs

on football boots, whereas in others equipment is designed to reduce friction e.g smooth surfaces on skis. Choose 2 sports and draw and label either the equipment used or clothing worn which helps to increase or reduce friction. Due: Friday, 16^th May.

Topic homework

Research a battle or war that occurred in Ancient Greek times and write a report about what happened. Who was the war between? What caused the war? Who won? Who were the main people involved? Due: Monday, 12^th May.

Use your knowledge to explain how heavy ships float. Try to use as much scientific vocabulary as possible. (gravity, upthrust, forces, balanced, unbalanced, surface area)

You should have all taken home a sheet to help with your understanding of decimals, fractions and percentages. Please try to memorise the fraction and percentage equivalents.

50% = ½   (Divide by 2)

Eg, 50% of 40 = 40÷2 = 20.

 

25% = ¼   (Divide by 4) or halve and halve again.

Eg, 25% of 40 = 40 ÷4 = 10.

 

10% = 1/10  (Divide by 10)

Eg, 10% of 40 = 40÷10 = 4

 

1%   = 1/100  (Divide by 100)

Eg, 1% of 40 = 40÷100 = 0.4

 

To convert fractions to decimals, divide the numerator by the denominator.

Eg, 2/5 = 2÷5 =0.4

   

To change a decimal to a percentage, multiply it by 100, or move the decimal point two places to the RIGHT.

 

Eg, 0.75 x 100 = 75%

      0.75 = 75%
